Advice on a day trip to the Grand Canyon

Hey guys.

Me and Ben have a few days in Vegas either side of the convention, and we're thinking about hiring a car and driving to the Grand Canyon (either West or South Rim) for a day trip.

Have any of you done this trip from Vegas before? Is it realistic to do this in a day?

Where is the best place to drive to from Vegas? And does it involve any off-road driving to get to the canyon? (For example, I read something on Wikipedia about the last 14 miles to the Skywalk being off road?!)

I'd be grateful for any advice you guys can give :-D

There should be a disclaimer on this video, "Do not watch while consuming anything covered in hot sauce!". I think I just chemically burned my Sinuses...on the plus side tho, I can breathe better now!

Hey! Just wanted to respond to this myself (others can pipe in who have done things in Vegas besides the convention). I actually have not done anything that was too far from the convention. I usually arrive the night before and depart the day after the convention. I am not sure about others in the group...boys?

You do not have to off road to get to the canyon itself, there are some areas, but any spot is a good view. I live in Arizona, so I don't know about the drive from Vegas, but I think its wonderful that you want to visit it!
