Hello there Fleetie Darlings,
Well, the time has come to start planning our annual Fleet Meet-up at the Creation Star Trek Las Vegas convention. This convention takes places August 8th through the 11th and most convention events take place between 8AM and 6PM. We've been doing this for 3 years now and this year will be our 4th consecutive meeting since the inception of the Stonewall Gaming Network. As a 3-soon-to-be-4 time convention veteran I will do my best to educate and elucidate what awaits you Sin City during one of the largest gatherings of Star Trek fans and celebrities in the country and what a blast you're going to have should you decide to go.
Creation Entertainment is the licensed company that puts together official Star Trek and other SciFi genres' conventions all over the world. For the past two years this convention has been held at The Rio Hotel which is an all-suite hotel located just of The Strip behind Ceasars Palace. Off-Strip hotels are cheaper than hotels on the strip and The Rio is definitely one of the nicer ones with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the entire city. It also boasts a rooftop dining/lounge/dance club where some of the convention parties are held. Each suite can accomodate up to 4 or 5 people though more can fit, and have a long sofa in addition to a single King bed or 2 Queen beds.
The resort has an gorgeous pool section complete with sand beach, waterfalls and in-pool bar service. There are many eateries suiting every budget and taste and room service is fairly reasonable as Las Vegas hotels go. When we've gone the last couple of year we've tended to take over The Irish Pub (formerly Mcfaddens) but I'm not sure if that will be open this year and if it is it will only be on Friday and Saturday nights. What's really cool about this year is that the Krave Group, which is the premier gay entertainment company out there, has opened a pop-up at the Rio for Friday and Saturday nights at the local dance club across from the Irish pub. Krave also operates a much larger venue on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas complete with swimming pools, bowling alleys, dance floors and arcades.
These clubs along with the more venerable clubs along the famous "Fruit Loop" showcase headliners from Rupauls Drag Race, world class DJ's and more GoGo boys than you can shake a wad of singles at. This means that there has never been more for geeky people like us to do in this town than there is now! These links I've posted in the text should direct you to more detailed information about the Hotel, the nightlife and most importantly the Convention. I will continue to post updates with more information on this discussion. If the cost of the trip seems daunting I would recommend looking up some travel sites like Gayorbitz.com or Cheaptickets.com as you do save more if you bundle flight with airfare and you can always split the cost of a room with another guest or guests.

This includes free access to the Saturday Night Gala Celebration, the theme of which is Star Trek on Broadway. You'd be surprised how many trek celebrities (Especially from DS9) have amazing singing voices. The 2nd year I went we got treated to a wonderful concert by James Darren aka Vic Fontaine and it was very intimate and romantic.
