Graphics trouble
Hi there. I'm running an older iMac from 2008 and I finally got STO to run on it but I have to have all the graphics settings at absolute minimum for it to be smooth at all. In fact, while the graphics were all the way down, a mission in the Delta quadrant was really choppy, the Ocampa convoy or something. It was hard to fight against the Hirogen because it was so choppy. I kicked their butts though.
Anyway, I'm hoping that someone here will know what to do in terms of in-game settings for good graphics where I might have to raise one thing and lower another. Or maybe there's some kind of third party software that'll allow me to have good graphics without the actual video card. As some of you may be aware, the Mac uses shared video memory. That brings up another possible solution someone in the know might be able to help with: If you know anything about Macs and if there's a way to get more juice out of its onboard graphics processor, let me know!
Kind of funny, the graphics problems are what made me have to take a lengthy vacation from the game. I was on an aging PC and I was running a 400 watt video card with a 360 watt power supply. It must've hurt the computer because it started acting all hinkey. I remember the exact moment it started, too. It was when I first beamed down to New Romulus when it was new. Holy crap, that was choppy. It was all downhill from there.
I'm just afraid I'm going to have to need a monster gaming rig in order to play and I really don't want to have to sink a few grand into a PC just to play STO.
Any help that you can provide would be most useful!
Thanks!
