I love the pretty blue of my Tetryon Beam Arrays, but I've been told several times that they are the worst damage type to use. I was think about upgrading the blue Retro Phasers to use instead, but before I did, I wanted to check, is it worth it? Or is their damage type inferior for some reason? Thanks :)

I liked the tetryon beams too, they are better than disruptors at least.

I would love to know if this is something valid, I'm currently using tetryon beams on my aft and anti-protons on the fore, but if there is a better type of beam to use, I'm interested.

The thing with tetryons is that their proc is useless against unshielded targets (borg structures and even enemy ships when you've lowered their shields). If you like blue I would recommend the Andorian phasers (need and Andorian ship to purchase) or phased tetryon.

Tetryon is terrible alas proc wise and you should avoid using them. As for disruptors you are mistaken their proc is probably one of the most useful and consistent for damage.

Andorian phasers are a good thing to use if you like blue but as mentioned you need the andorian ships.

The retro phasers don't scale so well though with the new upgrade system this could change but I have no idea of anyone tried.

Don't forget about the Xindi Phased Biomatter weapons, they are blue.

There are also two different types of Retrofit Phasers, the ones that scale with your level from the TOS Enterprise and the ones from the Devidian mission, "Everything Old is New."

I've thought of upgrading a few of them to see what happens, but I seem to have a bad track record with upgrading unusual items, Bajoran Phasers, Polarized Dual Tetryon Beams, Phaser Relay consoles...

Oh yeah the phased biomatters are pretty cool. Their proc is especially good with a nice gravity well'd group. And with them being the latest lockbox they should be relatively cheap.

I think I read that people were in love with their upgraded retro phasers. Personally I've always been fond of the purple and red beams. I really loved it when my antiproton beams looked like red lightning way back when, I was sad when they changed it.

So I'm almost Level 15 in Beams so I'm doing a bit more research to decide what I want to use on my cruiser.

Damage TypeProc 1Proc 2
Retrofit Phaser2.5% Chance: Disable 1 SubsystemN/A
Tetryon2.5% Chance: -X to all ShieldsN/A
Destabilizing Tetryon2.5% Chance: -X shield drain per sec for 15 secN/A
Polarized Tetryon10% Chance: -X to all ShieldsN/A
Phased Tetryon2.5% Chance: -X to all Shields2.5% Chance: Disable 1 Subsystem
Refracting Tetryon2.5% Chance: -X to all Shields2.5% Chance:X Tetryon Damage to the next nearest enemy target

The Phased Tetryon have the combined procs of Phaser and Tetryon so that might be good. I don't care for the Refecting Tetryon's secondary proc of damage to the next enemy cause that just looks like tons of agro. Polarized Tetryon kinda looks the nicest of all with a proc 4 times as often, but it's the bad proc everyone warns me about. Which do you all think would be the best?

The only thing I'm worried about is the weapon attributes. My current weapons are [Dmg]x3. Some of the above versions will be difficult to get the same attributes meaning I'll actually be decreasing my DPS. Do you think [Dmg]x3 is worth keeping? I've heard some people prefer [Acc]x3.

Thanks for you input!

I hear that too, so I'm going for Acc or CtH nowadays rather than CtD or Dmg

I love the sounds of those phasers though (both ground and space!) pew pew!

I use tets on my klinky orion, after reading this i think it's time he got something greener...

looking at your table, time to move to either of the phased tets (preferred) or the refracting tets.

i love multicolour rainbows :) but word on the galactic street is to use one weapon type as this helps u use just one tac console enhancer plus maintains weapon power drain too

There's also Piercing Tetryon which I left off the table cause it doesn't come in a Beam Array, but it's secondary proc is a 2.5% chance to ignore 50% of an an enemies shields which sounds pretty nice to me.

I agree with the fact of using one energy type on a ship to minimize weapon drain and i stand by that rule, but if you like a certain type of energy whether it be tetryon, polaron or even if its tribble, use what you like and make adjustments if needed.

But personally i had wondered about the pierecing tetryon as well but never tested it. I would like to hear if it worth it due to its procs as well.

Nick if you like blue go biomatter phasers the tetryon proc is really not worth it at all and biomatter phasers are pretty nice and still fairly cheap.

As for modifiers as a rule of thumb [acc]x2 is what people want unless you have lots of traits and abilities that increase your accuracy, remember you only do damage when you hit something.

I am the Standard Phasers type of guy. Using Fleet Elites with DMGx2 and ACC. I started upgrading Consoles first, probably a bad idea.
