Berman and Gay Trek?

Has anyone publicly asked Berman why he weeded out every gay character and reference from his Star Trek productions?

I'm asking in reference to this interview with David Gerrold. It's the 2nd or 3rd reference to Berman being partly responsible for the lack of gay on trek.

In the past year several articles have appeared discussing some of the issues going on behind the scenes in TNG, et al. This is the first i've seen from a major player in the first seasons.

I have no doubt of the homophobia that was rampant in the 80's, but without another witness to Gerrold's story, I have to ask it with a grain of salt. I used to follow him on Facebook, but I eventually couldn't stand it anymore because he was just so toxically bitter about everything. I just feel that this story is more of the same.

That "The Great Bird Of The Galaxy" had some dark feathers should not come as much of a surprise.
He was still a corporeal bipedal Terran after all.

I tend to agree, but this is the 3rd or 4th article with the same players and same stories. One was by DC Fontana, not known for holding grudges much.

I will say that Roddenberry having a drinking problem was talked about many years ago, as to being paranoid about network execs, that would certainly make sense as well.
