TNG on Blue Ray

Anyone buy this yet? Is it awesome? I love love love the preview

I dont think Season 1 is out yet? at least not in the UK. I bought the preview and it looks fantastic. Bit miffed its not in widescreen, TOS Blu Ray wasnt either but the DVDs were. It makes me :(

Anyone explain to me why it is?

I didnt even know we could pick up the preview episodes yet, I'll have to get that ordered when I get home :)

TNG was shot for TV starting in the late 80s that still used the ratio of 4:3. Move cameras actually use this same ratio. However, to make a widescreen show, they put a special cap on that blocks the top and bottom of the view to give a 16:9 ratio.

So, if they actually converted this to widescreen, you'd lose a lot of the footage from the top and bottom of every scene.

It's a shame most of old stuff wasn't shot in 16:9, but it's something we must deal with. The only I have with 4:3 is that I don't enjoy the black bars at the sides of the picture. Bugs me for some reason, meh.

It's mostly not going to be of anything seriously important. Think top of image and bottom of image. Most of the interesting stuff will be in the middle. It's not like they're gonna cut off part of character's heads or anything.

Or then again, MAYBE. D: *inquisitive*

thats my point it isnt gonna be cut at all, instead we'll have black bars down the left and right. Still it looks amazing. I wish Yesterdays Enterprise had been one of the three preview eps on the disc

first thing I thought of when i saw "fat Data" was "that would look like Harry Kim"

I am just glad they are cleaning TNG before they do an updated version like JJ did with TOS

TNG needs some love

although now I can see the model making stuff they used for some of the environments, like when the space jellyfish comes up out of the ground

it looks like some train model my father would make

and Michael Dorn's nostrils really never needed to be in high def

I absolutely Love it!!! Who knew how much great detail they put into it all!

I have all the episodes already on DVD. I know they are going to come out with the entire season on Blu-ray so I'm going to wait until they do. They already have the original series on Blu-ray.

is DS9 on blue ray yet? id REALLY want that! :D

Dont think so! But who knows! Maybe if TNG sells like crazy then they will make it!

awh i hope they do, DS9 was always the best series for me, loved how it had one big main storyline throughout the series. Always wanted a movie

Yeah alot of people did! Im one of those that actually love all the series equally... There are bits and pieces I hate bout each one, but also piece i absolutely love! So I hope they do ALL the series's in Blue!

The press release for the TNG Blue Ray full seasons said that they plan on doing DS9 and releasing it around Christmas 2012
