Yes, the family name before 1917 was Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, but this was deemed too germanic for the British Royal family during the First World War so they adopted the name of Windsor (after Windsor Castle) instead.

Another note, Duchess is not always above Princess, one is a title in the peerage and the other a royal title. Royalty precedes the peerage (nobles) in the the Order of Precedence: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_Order_of_Precedence
All this is different from the Line of Succession aswell, so it's a bit complicated. For example, Princess Beatrice is 5th in line to the Throne, but comes after Catherine in the order of precedence, who is not in line to the throne, and before the Duchess of Westminster who is not a member of the Royal Family at all.

Well if you go far enough back, no one is English.

Lol, yes it's acommon joke in the UK that the Royal Family are German, but that's not the whole truth. You could also say that since every current member of every European Royal family is decended from Queen Victoria (and all the way back to George I), they are all also English. The fact that the King of England and the German Emperor during World War One were first cousins didn't help, and that's the reason why the British Royals tried to distance themselves from their German cousins by becoming the House of Windsor. Basically the practice of Royals only marrying other Royals for centuries led to them all being the same extended family.

And for looking like they do. Lets not forget that ;)

Fortunately, Kate is absolutely stunning and with Diana's genes lurking about hopefully the next generation of Royals will avoid looking like...well...royals.

On a completely different note, a friend of mine showed me a picture of Kate's brother. All I could think was, "Oh, how nice, now Kate will have two queens in her family!".

I SO agree that Harry is hot...he is SO charming!

And meh...people kinda wonder if her brother is gay, but I don't think they're very good looking. And her dress was nothing compared to Diana's! :P
(I've just realised how gay that sounded!)
