FF XIV anyone?

August 28 2010
Good morning y'all! I was just wondering if anyone was thinking about trying Final Fantasy online when it goes open beta Sept 1st? I was never a huge fan of the first FFO, but I'm willing to give anything a shot right now. It'de be nice to know a few people in game. Lemme know!

Is it going open beta as in fully open beta? Or is it still selection process.

I plan to buy it on launch so if I can get in on the beta I probably will.

It launches at the end of September, and yup, it'll be open registration on sept 1st :) the graphics look stunning, although what I hear of a 15 hour per week xp limit sucks. Like after 15 hours of play time, you cannot gain more until your weekly timer refreshes... I dunno about all that

Hm, not heard anything about that. Seems an odd feature to have. Unless their gameplay is so much fun that even though you're not getting xp you still want to play.

What a strange world that would be :p

Supposedly its set in place so the "casual" gamers won't get hugely overstepped by "hardcore" players. Good idea in theory, but I don't really care if So-and-So is lvl 80 a week after launch and I'm not. The makers state its to make sure people know when to stop playing... well thank you but I'm perfectly capable of logging off when I'm ready...
I can also see it as a way to ensure long subscription times. By limiting how fast you progress, you will stay subscribed longer. Sneaky Asians!! =D

But what about those poor sods with no self control who played themselves into the grave?

Even without taking them into consideration, there are people who can't tear themselves away from their virtual world save to begrudgingly use the toilet or fill their noise hole with high sugar, low nutrition garbage.

I'm keeping an eye on this one.
Looks good so far but lots of controversy about the fatigue system. Have to wait and see how that turns out.

I'll probably try it.

Me too. ^.^ Lots of good memories tied into Final Fantasy, despite the bad stuff in FFXI. ^.^

How did you go about downloading the closed beta client (which from what I understand should have already updated to the open beta client)?

I read on forums that you need to download the installer from fileplanet. I did that but then that seemed to do weird stuff and not actually download.

Is that what you did?

Well, they've put the beta back on track, but there's no application link on their app page; not that I can see, anyway. : /

Ok, so I'm going a little bit crazy here.

It says it was meant to start at 3am this morning (British Time) so I set my alarm and woke up but only to be met with "Server Busy" pages. I try for a while but eventually give up and go back to bed and I wake a few hours later to try again. No joy, Back to bed. I wake again a few hours later and still no joy.

Anyway I get up properly and a few more hours later I managed to get into the login page but apparently my username and password don't work and if I click forgotten password it says I don't have an account. Despite the fact that I do and I can login on the main Square Enix website.

Anyone having any luck at all?

Update: Oh apparently it was me. I think I had the wrong kind of account registered or something. Got my beta code, just trying to log into the account server to apply it. Getting lots of "Server Busy" pages again, fun :)

Update 2: Sorted. Just downloading the game now :)

I spend 2 days downloading the entire game, glued to computer to prevent interruptions. I go to work one night, and now I get this wonderful message.

"Applications for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test have been temporarily suspended. Please wait until we are ready to accept new applications and then try again."

Well, still no beta key. I'm getting the client, which is taking forever!! Lol. I guess i'l try to register randomly all day while I'm at work. Not like I can use my PC internet anyway, this patcher destroys bandwith. Argh!! Hope my internet company doesn't think I'm "abusing" my line =D
