Comic Book

I'm not very experienced in role play, but I was wondering if any of you that are would be interested in starting a sort of comic book.

The basic idea would be you all would write a story line and then act it out in game using bridges, space battles, ground missions and what not, take pictures of the action, crop them and paste them together and add text bubbles to each image.

If there's a good number of you interested in this, I'd put you together as a Task Force and you can work together as a group.

I'd help whenever needed. I can help with the editing of the photos and putting it together if you'd need me to.

Hmmm... this is an interesting idea. I'd definitely be up for trying this out. The most difficult part would be finding the appropriate backgrounds within the game, especially with the lack of ship interiors. Though, I guess you could the less-populated areas of the Starbases until they get the ship interiors up and running.

Sure, count me in. I'd even be up for writing the first issue if no one else wants to do it.

One tool that could help, though I've never used it, is the MashON tool that was developed for Champions Online. However, since it just uses screenshots as assets, it should work for Star Trek Online as well. It can be found here: http://www.champions-online.com/mashon/start

That's pretty cool.

Is there anyone else who'd be interested in this? It would be really awesome if we could get 5 or 6 people working on this together.

It'd be awesome if you wrote the first issue Chem.

I was also thinking we could turn some of the game episodes into stories or maybe that would be using their IP too much?

I guess one thing I could do is make a brief test issue using one of the missions and my main character's crew. The one thing I just realized that might complicate matters is the fact that there is no first-person view in this game, which means my main character is ALWAYS going to be in the center of the image.

Does anyone know if there's a way around this?

Eeeeexcellent. Given the camera complications I spoke of above though, everyone may need to be their own photographer.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'd be willing to photograph, star, and help piece together bits as well.

I've never tried making any story into a comic book, so my experience and comfort levels are beyond non-existent. I am interested, but it may take a few issues to get a feel for things.....much like a trek series usually takes...

of course I'd want to star as an actor and contribute as a writer as well. :-D

Are there no advanced camera options in the game? It'd be nice if there were if not. I can imagine you'll all need a camera man. Some tasteful cropping of the images may help.

I think the starter Azura mission would be an awesome test episode.

This is an interesting idea. I heart comic books and spend an embarrassing amount of time and money on them. I'd be happy to help when and where I can.

Also, the camera may be working against you, but since you'll hardly ever (if ever) need a full screen shot of something you should be okay cropping it. Also, if you absolutely need it, you can trick the camera into giving you a first person view by backing up to a wall or other static object.

@Exo & Aiden: Sweet, I'll add you to the line-up!

@Nick & Aiden: Well, there are no advanced camera options that I know of. Well, actually, I take that back now that I think about it. I (really quickly) checked the Camera Options menu last night. It seemed limited to just selecting X- and Y-inverstion, but now that I think about it... there may have been an offset slider option. I'll check again when I log in tonight. Even if it doesn't, I agree with Aiden's assesment about cropping. It will still limit the kind of shots we can get, but it will help.

With regard to the Azura mission, I agree that its a good test case. It's an involved story mission that happens right at the beginning, so any new characters we create just need to be taken through the tutorial.

Sounds interesting. Depending on what's needed and time commitments, I may want to participate as well.

Alright boys and girls, if you're still interested in this, please join the Machinima Group I've created so we can start hashing this out. If you're not interested anymore, that's totally fine. I just want to know how many people are seriously interested in this before devoting too much energy to it.

Sounds like fun. I've got a bit of comic book xp under my belt, and I can help with writing, graphics, "acting," or whatever.

Just let me know!
