We're two weeks behind on Doctor Who... so no spoilers. ;-) We didn't watch the preview since we watched the last two episodes practically back to back so I missed that spoiler.
I agree... I'd have preferred to see Esther survive and Rex not.
Until this current incarnation of Dr. Who, not one season did we have the same cast repeat (first the Doctor changed, then Rose left, then it was Martha, then Donna), so I started to see Torchwood's darker version in killing off members.
Now that I think about it, better for Martha Jones' character that she not join Torchwood for fear of losing her to the Dr. Who universe forever. But that's another topic I touched on earlier.
Not having seen the preview faux paus, I half expected Gwen to be killed off and one or both of the newbies to survive, but I KNEW Jack couldn't have been killed. He IS Torchwood.
The Rex and Esther issues aside...
I truly enjoyed it. Maybe my "mediocrity" bar is set too low. ;-)
Taking a pocketable piece from a laptop would turn it into a useless lump of plastics and metals. :p
I have a bad feeling about Rex being the new immortal. As if, for the next series perhaps, instead of paying a group of BBC CYMRU actors to come film in the US, they may try to form some sort of western branch of Torchwood revolving around the immortal (non-eccentric, non-gay, very machismo, very tough) Rex. Then again, people do call me a pessimist; and I do admit that I sometimes have trouble seeing the good in things.
REALLY was upset when they got rid of DeLancie. :(
Can't quote a dang thing without it bypassing the Spoiler filter....
I still don't think it would be Torchwood without Jack. I had the same initial fears about them simply neutering Jack, especially after the second episode on the plane (he never flirted with the "I'm not gay... just that once" guy just to get him to get over himself). But the actual man on man, nude love scenes assuaged my fears (and caught me completely by surprise).
I'm not happy about Rex, so completely agree with you on that point.
And yes! Totally sucks they killed DeLancie, and for me, it was also nice to see Paul James (the black kid who discovered the mole just before they all died) but bummed they killed him off too.
