Stellarcartography 101

May 08 2011
Hey fleet!

So I have a general question. I've been looking around on-line for a map/starchart (to no avail) for Star Trek circa 2154. Specifically, I'm trying to find the Delphic Expanse in relation to established worlds. I know it's about a 50 LY trip from Earth, but I have no idea what direction except that Vulcan is "out of the way."

I'd really appreciate it if anyone who knows can tell me. Would be even better if it's in terms of an STO sector! Thanks.

These are the best two maps I know that show the cannon universe:

And I can't find the Delphic Expanse on either of them. Who knows if they've ever shown it on a map or if they every will. Most of the maps currently out are based around the Voyager and TNG era which would mean that it had disappointed a long time before.

If you check Memory Alpha and Memory Beta, they state that the position of Delphic Expanse is vague, at best. Star Trek's official database doesn't give any better clues either.

All that's stated is that it's 50 light years from Earth and possibly near Cardassia Prime and Ferenginar.

Thanks, much appreciated. Sorta makes sense, 2000 LY is a decent chunk of real estate and could easily include Feringinar to Cardassia.

Just out of curiosity why are you looking for this information? You working on a story for the Foundry?

Cool map Nick. @JBrenden: On that link that Nick provided look at grid 15 H. There's a planet there called New Xindus. If I remember my Ent correctly the Xindi homeworld was not their original birthworld where they evolved as the Avians had died out on their homeworld. According to this map and the official STO map it seems like it would put their homeworld somwhere in the northwest corner of the Gamma Orionis sector block. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the heads up!

I took a closer look at that grid square and if you follow it back in the general direction of Earth you will find Azati (where the large weapon was built; "Azati Prime" ENT-318), Triannon (the crazy religious zealots; "Chosen Realm" ENT-312), and Xindus (the original destroyed homeworld; "The Xindi" ENT-301).

So, I'm convinced now that this is the right neighborhood. Since Gamma Orionis is "Borg Space" in-game, what does that do as far as mission accessibility for lower level players if a Foundry Mission is created in that area?

Any missions that have doors in Gamma Orionis are basically limited to RA 3 and above.

I had a feeling it would be something like that. Thanks.
