I engage them. Talk to them. Tell them what the organization as a whole is doing.

Often, the bell-ringers themselves don't know. I've cost them at least one volunteer.

I don't feel welcome in LGB spaces... well, at all... quite often. Particularly spaces whose leadership is made up entirely of gay men.

There's a habit among the queer community and advocacy groups to treat LGBT as being more LGb_t - to focus both attention and effort on gay men first, then on lesbians, then occasionally remember that bisexual/pansexual/panromantic people exist, then, if there is time left over and doing so will cost the other groups precisely nothing, mention that maybe someone should remember the trans folks.

A few years ago when HRC was willing to push the trans-exclusive equality bill? Yeah, something in my heart still hasn't forgiven that, regardless of how hard I've tried. I certainly haven't forgotten it.

Far past due. And as for any issues...

The unit will get over it. That's their JOB.

It will be interesting to know how they approach the issue. However, I am more than happy to know this is happening. Of course I could have used this when I was 18. Now I'm 30. That's 12 years of Rank lost. Bleh.

To me, this is related to the article that I posted here. Many see being homosexual as being a fetish, choice, phase and/or lifestyle. They struggle with the concept that being gay is the exact same as being straight with the only difference being finding sexual gratification with someone of the same sex as opposed to the opposite sex.

A short time ago, I was having a conversation with a relative and they asked what was the difference about me getting married as opposed to not getting married (in light of the SCOTUS decision). I asked them what would be the difference in me getting married or not getting married to a female? That's when the lightbulb went off for them because it allowed them to see it for what it is.

I think some people simply don't understand because they've never really thought about it while others refuse to understand/accept because it makes them too uncomfortable.

To me they are clearly separate things. If you research it you will find that straight people have the same sort of fetishes as we do just with the opposite sex. Pornography aside there are many interesting documentaries on fetishes, mostly from a heterosexual point of view with a smattering of homosexuals in the mix. HBO and Showtime (late night) have many examples of this. Netflix is another network that has some of these materials available. Fetishes are definitely not specific when it comes to sexual orientation.
