Ethan McCloy's Personal Log, Stardate 86425.6

January 08 2010
As my journey on the U.S.S. Radiance is about to begin, and I find it hard to sleep at night. As I toss and turn, I lie awake wondering what lies ahead. Being a Starfleet captain in this time of war will prove to provide many challenges for my crew and me.

At the Academy, we’re taught that a captain is expected to maintain a certain distance. Until now, I have always been comfortable with that distance. With their family and friends dying around them, I have a feeling that this crew may become more of a "family" than any other I will serve with.

Maybe more than ever now, they need me to be larger than life; I only wish I felt larger than life.

Of course you know I'm interested, Brandon! I'd be all for this. And if anyone ever feels like doing something like this in-game and I'm online, just let me know. I'm always up for a good RP session.

I do not have much experience, other than my CO guild. I think that ST has more role-play potential and I would like to find out who else might be interested. If the leaders agreed, maybe we could create an in-game, chat channel to be used for "in character" RPing only. Those interested could join a channel called "RPStonewall". What do you think? :)

Such wonderful stories! It brings such joy to my heart knowing there is such a open, honest and worldwide community of LGBTQ folks who are passionate about Star Trek and MMOs.

I'm James. 26 going on 40. I say that because most peoples' first impressions are I'm older than I am. My behavior is generally professional and mature for my age, and thanks to my father's/grandfather's German genes, I'm working on the full Picard hairdo at 26. My mother is Native American and still lives back in Montana, both on and off the reservations depending on how the winds blow. I had a very deep, connected relationship with my father, and one of our favorite past times was watching Star Trek: The Next Generation together. Between the age of 7 and 10, I soaked up every possible Star Trek episode made. It was sadly at this time my father was diagnosed, fought, and ultimately lost his fight to colon cancer. Even though its 16 years later, my love for him and Star Trek are one and the same and both will live on in my heart and memory forever.

My love of MMOs grew from playing with my friends in World of Warcraft. I'm working on my MD/PhD which is the combined medical and graduate school education. Its a very long, difficult but fun career path. Nevertheless, it has taken me from university to university, far from my friends in both Montana and Washington. It was through WoW we kept in touch and enjoyed the online world together. I'm a pretty competitive and comprehensive person when it comes to computer games in general, so it should be no surprise I had a level 80 (max level) of every class (10 classes) in Wow. This dedication took a lot of time and ultimately hurt my relationship with my partner Kyle. I'm taking a break from WoW at the moment and focusing on working though our relationship bumps.

As to my sexuality, I was deep in the closet for most of my life. I consider myself a pretty keen observer of behavior, but as so many in the closet, I was blind to my own needs and identity. Much of this I'm sure was growing up in a pretty conservative home where the script to life was girlfriend then marriage then sex then kids in that order. Oh Christian conservatism, how blind we are to our own failings as a doctrine. Nevertheless, I decided when I went away from home to college at Washington State University that I knew I wasn't straight and should explore my options. As things go, I had one of those tragic glitz-crag coming out stories where I felt I needed to tell my family before I was emotionally ready. I have no doubt in my heart my family loves me, but our relationship has obviously changed. Even after seven years, I watch them struggle with who I am and how that affects them, just as I struggled seven years ago. I found my current partner Kyle when I was a junior in college (2003) and we've been together ever since. We have a dog (Daisy) and cat (Neela) whom we both love. We currently live near Chapel Hill, North Carolina where I attend school for the MD/PhD.

Thank you to each of you for sharing your stories. I look forward to meeting so many of you in Star Trek Online at Tpox, Vulcan medical captain of the science ship USS Caduceus.

Hi everyone,

Well, my name is Tim and i live in St Ives, Cambridgeshire in the UK. I'm a 43 year old gay man who has fostered two teenage boys. (They were my friends kids, parents got divorced, kids were going into care. So i stepped in).

Have just come to the end of a major battle in my life. I was diagnosed with cancer and have spent a year battling with it. Have just been given the all clear so as you can imagine, myself and my son's are over the moon. :)

Have been an avid star trek fan for as long as i can remember. Have played virtually all MMO's out there and worked for Sony Online Entertainment as a Server GM for Everquest until they relocated the UK office to India.

I'm single.....just not had time to find a partner, also makes it difficult as my son's take up a bit of my time and gaming takes up the other part....lol

Really looking forward to getting to meet some friends in STO. It's going to be a blast and I'm sure a hell of a lot of fun. I've already pre-ordered and am just awaiting for the 12th Jan and then its Open Beta and all systems go. :)

Hope to see you all in game and also on the forums and chat room more now that i have my life settled down.

Hail Stonewall Fleet!

I just wanted to let your fleet know you have an ally over in Omega Fleet. I'm excited to get to playing Star Trek online, but equally as excited to know there is a fleet out there for LGBTQ community.

If you ever need a wingman, look up Tpox!

Aw sweetie... I had social anxiety for a long time too, and I still have mild general anxiety. I'm not a very outgoing person in public/social settings either. That has gotten much better though, and I think online communities help that to a degree. I had to be careful to not let them become a crutch for reality. Oddly enough I am a loner on MMOS, but IO think STO will be different :) Again, welcome.

Re:Getting to know you.

December 30 2009
I knew this was going to be a great place, but to come in and see the very first Getting to Know You post talking about panic issues just made my heart grow a billion sizes. I have spent most of my life dealing with depression and general/social anxiety, and only in the past three years or so has that dealing been anywhere near effective. Due to this, I've always struggled with the social aspect of online gaming, but I'm hoping that with STO I can turn over a new leaf.

I'm Chrissy, I'm 26, and I live in Michigan. I have a BA in English and Psychology and an MA in Education and with all that combined I am working as a substitute teacher because there are no jobs here in Michigan. When I was 11 and saw TNG for the first time, I decided that I wanted to be Beverly Crusher but alas, in high school I realized that while I may love reading about medicine, and while I may dye my hair various shades of red (what- if your childhood heroes were Crusher, Anne of Green Gables, and Alanna from Tamora Pierce's novels, you'd dye too!) it was never, ever going to give me the emotional capacity or the hand-eye coordination to be a doctor. Turns out that the only other thing I loved was teaching English.

I realized I was bi at age 17 and came out to my immediate family a year later. My parents and brother have always been very supportive of me. My social anxiety kept me from dating very often, but I had a girlfriend in college, and now I am that demon of the community that is a bisexual woman dating a man. I didn't intend it, it just sorta happened. He knows and accepts that I'm bi, and I adore him, and so I don't much agonize over it.

My primary hobby is reading. I read obsessively. It is my favorite thing in the world. I'm not a great video game player, but I do try very hard. I mostly play adventure games (Zelda, Okami, Point-and-Click PC games) and I played WOW for awhile but got stuck at level 15 because I was too shy to find people to quest with. As for Trek, I've been a fan (of various levels of obsession) since I was 11. I enjoy DS9 the most, but have the greatest amount of love for TNG.

I look forward to meeting everyone!

Re:Getting to know you.

December 29 2009
I'll throw mine out there too since we're all sharing =)

My name is Amanda, I'm 23, and I was born in, and currently still live in, Nebraska. Currently I have 2 semesters left before I get my bachelors in history/English with a minor in classics, and will go on for my masters in English after that. I also work full time in retail on the side. My life is rather uneventful and boring aside from that, single currently, but that leaves more time for STO right? :P

I wasn't a Star Trek fan until the age of around 13 or 14. I had seen Star Trek many times before then, my parents love both TOS and TNG so I saw quite a bit of it growing up but it wasn't until I was turned on the television a bit early for...I think it was Xena at the time and I caught the tail end of Dark Frontier part 2, right when Janeway busts into the Queen's chamber, I was hooked from then on.

MMOwise I've played most all of them. I started with Star Wars Galaxies, but left shortly after the NGE like a lot of people did lol. I dabble in WoW from time to time but have never gotten a character to endgame there. I spent the better part of 2 years playing LOTRO and have only recently let that game slide a little in favor of DDO, which aside from a lack of a lot of mmo features, is really fun mechanic wise in my opinion. I love the combat system there. In all my mmo games however I usually lean towards healer/medic roles. I just love em.
