Greetings from Ethan Muldoon

January 11 2010
I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself again. I did way back when I first found Stonewall Fleet about a year or more, but not much since.

Some of you may have seen me hanging out in the vent. Most of the time I was listening in on game play, a few times, I just forgot to close Vent...sorry. Oh, and I am not being rude by not talking...I had been without a mic so all I could not is listen :( . Now, however, I do have a headset that lets me talk, so feel free to say hi...I am sometimes shy and don't jump out there at first in new groups.

I am very excited about a chance to get in and start playing during open beta. I am ready to go for Tuesday. I even think I am taking off work that day to enjoy it a bit--who knows...maybe Wednesday too. LOL.

With regards to MMOs, I am relatively new. I have been on WoW for about two years. I recently started playing around in COH--in part to see how Cryptic does their games. Other than that, you can find me in SecondLife-a virtual world created by the residents (players). There I participate in a Star Trek Roleplay (lite) group and have been doing that for 3 1/2 years.

Ok, time to shut and and maybe get some sleep. its 3am, and I have to work in 5 hours.

I hope to get a chance to talk to people and play along side of you in-game.

(oh, btw, Ethan Muldoon is my toons name in SecondLife, and will carry him over to STO. my real name is Shane...I usually answer to either during games.)

Cya :)

Hi all,

Let me first say that I am so impressed and astonished at how candid everyone has been in their introductions. More importantly how receptive and supportive the other members have been! Way cool.

My name is Wesley, gay, I am 29 next month. As a teenager the only person that shared my name was that Crusher kid ;oD. Consequently he was my first on-screen gay crush. Troi was my second on-screen gay crush, lol. My mom is an avid fantasy/sci-fier so I was exposed to the genre at an early age. I love fantasy literature and I love Sci-Fi but never really got into sci-fi fiction my interest was primarily the sci-fi on TV. Star Trek TNG was a huge part of my growing up, mom and I would watch it religiously. Once I was out on my own I rarely had cable so I missed DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise. With the advent of bit torrents I downloaded the full series of Voyager and fell in love again with the Canon. I recently did the same with DS9 and I am about half way through season 3.

I discovered STO way back in it's early development when it was still with Perpetual. Since they folded and Cryptic took over I've been casually keeping track of the game. Since probably December I've been eagerly awaiting the launch. The last few days I've probably read every scrap of information on-line and in these forums. I don't have much experience with MMO's. My partner is an avid FFXI fan. We went to the convention last year . . . more on that another time lol. I played with him for a while but mostly casually so he was always way ahead of what I was doing and it stopped being fun. Also there seemed to be a lot of drama. Every time I would log in the linkshell would have been divided into two factions and split into two new linkshells. FFXI I found to be sort of difficult for the casual gammer. I played a trial of the D&D MMO and LOTR. I really enjoyed the LOTR MMO but found a lack of a good community.Finding Stonewall Fleet for STO has doubled my excitement level for this game.

Outside of my nerdiness I work full time for the federal government. It pays the bills and the work is often rewarding. I am also a full time student. I started my Junior year last fall. I'm hoping to have my BA in psychology late this year or early 2011. I have a graduate program picked out already. It's a non terminating doctorate program. So at the end of 4 years I'll be able to credential as a Psychologist/PsyD. I have ADHD which always makes life exciting. I never know what I'm going to forget. The good news is when I start playing STO I'll probably flunk out of school. LOL

Out side of my academic and professional pursuits I am a performance artist. I moved to Sacramento about two years ago from Seattle. In Seattle I maintained an active performance career. I have performed several styles of ethnic dance including, Egyptian, Moroccan, Turkish, Hula and Tahitian. I've also performed a few circus arts including fire dancing, fire eating, fire blowing, etc. as well as acrobalancing, and I studied some trapeze and Spanish web (though I never performed any aerial). I performed with a professional fire troupe for 6 years or so and we performed throughout the Pacific Northwest, a bit in Canada, and got the chance to perform at the Sundance film festival. I directed a mixed media performance troupe that performed through the yearly run of the Washington State Renaissance Faire for about 8 years and I had the opportunity to audition for Cirque du Soleil the summer of '04. Never made it past auditions but it was a fun and enlightening process. Since moving to Sacramento I've pretty much become inactive in all of my artistic pursuits, the art scene here is about 1/16th of what is was in Seattle. Recently however I've been trying to get my partner to take ballroom dancing with me. Keep your fingers crossed.

Wholly crap I talk too much. Soo umm yeah lol can't wait to play with everyone.

Love and Light,

Wesley

I don't guess that it's a major issue... but since the change over, I can no longer edit the color of my text...

I used to enter my text, open the color palette, highlight my text, and click to choose and apply the color. This no longer works, and the only color it displays the code for is a reddish/orange color... and I have to actually type the color code out...

I miss my green... ;)

Re:Getting to know you.

Hey all--

I thought I posted something here a while ago, but I guess I dropped the ball. I'm really looking forward to playing with you guys!!

I'm a 43 year old (yikes) teacher and writer from Des Moines, Iowa, which is currently the deep freeze of the world it seems. The high today will be 20 and we're all looking at that as a big improvement!

Anyway.

My first foray into MMOs was Star Wars Galaxies, a game I dearly loved until it all fell apart with the NGE. I guess one of the reasons I was drawn to creative writing is that I always wanted to escape into more interesting worlds, and sci fi was something I was interested in from an early age exactly for that reason. It isn't that I had a bad childhood or anything, but I was shy and had a hard time making friends. When Star Wars came out I fell in love. I loved how that amazing group of friends stayed together and made a difference in the face of overwhelming odds. It was very different from my own life. I just wanted to BE in that universe. I had all the toys and games. When Star Wars Galaxies came out I finally had my chance to "live it."

I met amazing people in SWG, joined a great guild, and had an absolutely marvelous time. Then I discovered drama, which about killed me because I ended up losing friends I really loved over nothing. To this day when I think about it, I get very emotional. That is the reason I am the number one enemy of drama online. I will do absolutely everything I can to avoid it.

I took a break from online games after that and finally found a home in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, another game I dearly loved. The main problem was finding other people to play with on a regular basis.

Now I'm just on the edge of my seat about finally being able to have my own Federation Starship!

My partner John and I were recently married (Yes, Iowa is one of the states where it's legal!). We had a wonderful gathering of family and friends, and it was just a great moment for both of us. He works in insurance and loves home improvement projects. He just finished remodeling our master bath with a new whirlpool tub! We are avid travelers, and enjoy eating out in good restaurants, gardening, reading, and, of course...GAMES. John has entered the world of MMOs because of me. He will be joining us here in STO a little later. We will first need to invest in a new computer for him.

I am very interested in helping you guys build a wonderful fleet and make a solid impact on the gaming community of STO. I love grouping and will do whatever I can to help a guildie.

Oh, and I'm a little intimidated because all of you who have posted pictures are so hot!

See you all soon!

Great idea, Zep! Actually, would it be possible to have this thread stickied? It would be a great repository for character info for the fleet.

Re:Character Biography

January 08 2010
Name: Kaden Zepari

Race: El Aurian

Faction: Starfleet

Biography:
Born in 2179 on the El Aurian homeworld to High Councillor Tolian Zepari, leader of the Council of Elders and his wife Councillor Sia Zepari, Kaden had begun his Gathering when the Borg came. Little is known of his life before joining Starfleet, as is common with El Aurian survivors.
It is known that the El Aurian race are ancient and use their long lifespans to gather wisdom from all over the galaxy. The "Gathering" period of a young El Aurian's education sees them head off alone into the galaxy, sometimes for decades, to learn wisdom from new races. This wisdom was then returned to the El Aurian homeworld and freely shared. Young Kaden Zepari was completeing his Gathering during the Borg invasion of his homeworld and so escaped assimilation with only a handful of others. All known survivors are also reported to be complying with a decree issued in the final moments by the El Aurian Council of Elders before their destruction at the hands of the Borg. The decree known as the "El Aurian Edict" by intelligence agencies across the quadrant is rumoured to be the reason why El Aurians have not chosen to share some of the vast knowledge they are thought to posess, including most worryingly the existance of the Borg, in order to prevent that knowledge from falling into the wrong hands again. This theory has led to the race often being referred to as a "race of listeners".

Academy:
Ensign Zepari applied to the academy and was accepted on the recomendation of Vice Admiral Nakamura in 2365. It had been noted that Admiral Nakamura had previously attempted to persuade Ensign Zepari to apply but had been unsuccessful until this point. Kaden Zepari became the first El Aurian Starfleet cadet on record, although it has been suggested that many El Aurians have been part of Starfleet since its creation but have chosen not to reveal their true identity.
Although 186 years old in Federation terms when he enlisted, most of his fellow cadets were unaware of this until a classmate unearthed an image of him taken by the press in 2293 aboard the USS Enterprise B and realised he had not seemed to age in the interim. This incident led to Kaden being given the nickname "Methusalah" for a short time until he became the academy's Anbo-Jyutsu champion, breaking the previous record and proving that his age was no obsticle. He has always denied ever being a member of Red Squad.
During his time at the academy, Ensign Zepari excelled, collecting several sporting and academical awards. He graduated in 2368 with degrees in Astrophysics, Warp Field Mechanics, Quantum State Theory and Xenobiology. His performance led to him becoming one of the few cadets to be offered places on both the Command School and Starfleet Medical post-graduate courses. He chose the command path and completed his initial post-graduate training on Beta Aquilae II.
Ensign Zepari returned to the academy in 2396 after rejoining Starfleet to update his training and decided to reapply to Starfleet Medical. Although it is unusual for a cadet to be accepted twice, his long life span and the potential return on their investment encouraged to head of the academy to allow him to attend. He graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from Starfleet Medical in 2399

Career:
After graduating from the Starfleet Command School annex on Beta Aquilae II in 2369, Ensign Zepari was briefly assigned to Starbase 173 and given the post of docking operations commander, gaining vital piloting experience, before transfering to the USS Intrepid. Within his first two years abourd the Intrepid, he was promoted to Lieutenant and became second in command of the stellar cartography department.
Following the destruction of the USS Enterprise D in 2371, Star Fleet Intelligence took an interest in Lieutenant Zepari most likely due to pressure put on the commander of the Enterprise to provide details of the El Aurian race and their knowledge of the Borg, which had not been included in earlier reports. Although offered an immediate promotion and choice of future assignment if he agreed to provide information on the history of his people, he refused and was transfered to Utopia Planitia. Following the intervention of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Lieutenant Zepari agreed to join Starfleet Intelligence on the understanding that he would not have to act contrary to the beliefs of the El Aurian people unless the future of the Federation was in imminent danger.
Lieutenant Zepari completed his Advanced Tactical Training at an undisclosed location in 2372 and officially resigned his comission the same year. No record exists of any un-official duties completed on behalf of the Federation after this date.

Current Assignment:
Kaden Zepari rejoined Starfleet in 2396, at the rank of Ensign, and proceeded to train as a medical doctor at Starfleet Medical. All mention of Ensign Zepari's links to Starfleet Intelligence were removed from his records and he was sent to the Romulan front to aide the ongoing relief effort in 2399.
Following the outbreak of war with the Klingons in 2406, Ensign Zepari was reassigned to the new Klingon front as a medical doctor.
Dr Zepari's present location is unknown.

OOC: On Calculating Stardates

January 08 2010
In case you want to use Stardates in your Captain's Logs or other RP, you can use one of the following link to get the Stardate. Thanks to Brandon (bfelczer) for supplying it!

http://www.sector001.com/info/stardate.shtml

Stardates for the Star Trek universe are actually calculated based on the day an episode first airs in our time. However, STO has accelerated the ST universe by 23 years. It takes place 30 years after Nemesis, which premiered 7 years ago. With that in mind, to get the current Stardate for STO, you have to tell the calculator that the current year is 2033, not 2010. This will give you the current Stardate for 2409, which is when STO takes place.

Also note that this is the method for Stardates in the main Star Trek universe. For the alternate universe of the most recent movie, Stardates are much simpler and use the Gregorian calendar: YYYY.DDD So for example, in that universe, the Stardate 2233.04 refers to Feb 9 (the 40th day) of 2233.

Re:((Anyone interested in roleplaying?))

January 08 2010
Wow, different calculators give different dates. This could be fun. :P It looks like there actually isn't a very set-in-stone system. I liked the way they did it in the new movie, where it was just the year, followed by a decimal, followed by the day number.
