Re:ST: Battlefront "Hackers"

June 22 2010
Desmond, Summer, Solek, and Turek sat around a table in the Daystrom Institute’s mess hall looking over P.A.D.D.s while they ate their lunch. “So, I hear this ensign Blaat has some interesting accomplishments with shield theory, his specialty is against the Borg.”

“That could be helpful. It looks like we’re getting a few more ensigns for security and tactical as well.” Summer commented setting down her P.A.D.D. to take a sip of her drink.

“Indeed. We should --” Solek began but was promptly cut off by the red alert klaxon. The four officers looked around to see that most of the researchers were starting to panic. “OK Troi, Guyton work on crowd control. Turek, get to the medical wing and report in.” He tapped his communicator in a quick breath as the officers jumped to their feet. “Solek to Lt. Calvin; Sir, what’s happened?”

“Solek we’re suffering a computer virus infection of some systems and we can’t prevent the spread. So far replicators EPS conduits and holo-emitters are completely infected. We fear the infection will spread nex...ummuni...tems...”

Solek rolled his eyes as he prepped to run down the corridors, “sounds like it already has.”

---

Back in the holomatrix laboratory, the scope the system’s infestation was becoming dangerously apparent. The holo-emitter platform started displaying various monsters and alien races. A few were quick flickers, others stayed cohesive for a long enough moment to unleash some attack or attempt. Eddie dodged a disruptor blast from the Klingon matrix before it transformed into a dragon. “Shut that thing off!”

“We can’t get a manual override, the main computer is locked out...we’ve got to get out of here!” Aron-Mu shouted, abandoning the console to find cover.

Mr. Barclay screamed from the other side of the room. “The doors are sealed shut; we're trapped!”

---

Solek raced through the corridor as the lighting flashed red. With communication down, there was little coordination among the crew and scientists. As he spun around a corner he saw only too late his oncoming impact with a young security officer. Uncharacteristic of most vulcans but quite in Solek’s nature, the surprised shock was enough to surprise the young ensign causing the two to hit and fall to the floor. “Who are you?”

“Uhh...Ensign Hreowr. What’s going on?”

“As far as I know Ensign Meow, a shit-storm; who’s your commanding officer?” Solek inquired of his new friend.

“It's Hreowr, sir, most of my instructors and friends call me Leo for ease on the earth tongue. I'm assigned to the Exobye, under Lieutenant Calvin, I think.”

“Well then for right now you’re reporting to me. We need to get to the holomatrix lab.”

---

Elsewhere, the turbolift doors opened to Turek fighting off an angry Bajoran hologram. After slipping out of the lift and letting the doors close, the young Cardassian medic looked up from his prone position on the floor to see a giant Talarian centipede looming over him. “Oh dammit..”

---

Desmond and Summer raced down a corridor of their own behind a security detail heading to the main computer. “Des, what exactly are we going to do?”

“On a starship if communications are down protocol is to secure the main computer, engineering and the bridge first. Since this place doesn’t really have engineering or a bridge, I’m guessing we need to secure the main computer.”

“But the command center of the station would be the same as the bridge - if there is an attack that would be where a response would be made.” Summer commented as she stopped running with the detail, causing Des to stop and look back at her.

“You’re right...Let’s head to the command center.” Before either could make a move, the holo-emitters materialized a holographic giant tarantula, and behind them the sounds of more clicking. Other giant tarantulas had been placed around them, pinning the two tactical officers in place. “This...could be bad.”

---

Solek and Hreowr made it to the section where the holomatrix lab was held, but found to their dismay the entire floor was covered in snakes. “Sir, I’m guessing from what we’ve seen in other sections, whatever virus this is has complete control of the holo-emitters that are on every space of this station...I think it’s wise to assume that with this level of targeting, the safety protocols have been disengaged.”

Re:Light Side or Dark Side?

My first choice of character is based solely on my love of the force lightning power so I will be playing dark side, but I also want to play a light side character aswell. As with KotOR 1&2 I don't feel like I've truely played a game unless I've tried every path available to see what happens. I noticed that the SW:TOR guild recruitment pages are divided into light and dark guilds aswell, so we may need to have two guilds ingame for all our members, but I intend to be in both so I can play either side depending on who else is online at the same time as me. I see a lot of sleepless nights coming after launch, lol.

I always end up playing good guys w/ Bioware games. But I guess it will depend on where most of my friends end up.

Light side definitely.

If it's a "lockable" costume item, then it simply can't be set as a fleet uniform. If I try to do it, a pop up will come up saying that there's a lockable part and it can't be used as a fleet uniform.

So what did you all think?

I thought in general it was good, but a bit rushed. I never like the finale two-parters as much as the rest of the series anyway. But this was OK, with some nice set pieces, good writing and good acting.

Still wondering why they didn't just shoot the Doctor instead of locking him up though. Fair enough, they know he can regenerate, but surely one member of the Alliance must know his regenerations are limited, so why not just zap him a couple of times?

Was thinking about this yesterday... I pretty much *always* play a good-guy, I suppose 'cause I like to relate to my 'character'. But I think the badguys do tend to have more fun. On the other hand, it'll kinda suck to play on a side that you know will, eventually, lose. lol Hmmm, one way on the other I'll be a jedi (it's all about the lightsaber!) so I'll wait and see precisely what force powers each side offers.

Re:New style Federation formal uniform

Well I agree if they're gonna be an unlockable I'm going to be straight onto that...

On the subject of the Diplomatic content, I was originally under the impression it was being included to provide an alternative progression method to the United Federation of Genocidal Maniacs approach that 95% of content currently requires. Now I'm hearing it'll be an entirely separate progression line. If that's true, does anyone know exactly how that's going to work?

I was hoping you'd be able to advance up to Admiral without vaporising quite so many people, and more in the spirit of the Federation we're used to. Considering that the game's set during war-time, I'd expect it take longer to get promoted as a scientist than as a glorious battle-veteran, but still; my main objection to STO from the beginning has been its "We come in peace, shoot to kill" ethos. I thought they were fixing that a bit, but now it sounds more like a side-quest.

So yeah, can anyone share or point me toward more details?

If they are locked, one thing we could do is create a "Diplomatic Corps"-specific version of the Fleet Uniform. That way, those members who have toons in the DC would be able to have a uniform that expresses both the career track and the fleet affiliation.

Light Side or Dark Side?

Which alignment will you be for you main character?

Re:New style Federation formal uniform

June 21 2010
I saw these a few days ago and thought they were very sharp. I'd love to redo these as the fleet uniform, but if they're "locked" in anyway, then they can't be. I thought from what I read was that these were "Off duty" dress option, but I don't know for sure. If these are for the diplomatic corp, I'm gonna be spanmming diplomatic missions to unlock it.

These are really sharp looking and the extra detail they are allowing in these is great. I wonder when they will be available in the game?

They're from a pic that dev posted on the forums some time ago. There is actually a post that I've lost the address for that compiled all of these pictures and they reveal a LOT of what's coming. I'll see if I can find it again and I'll post it on the boards here.

Re:New style Federation formal uniform

Yes, I think this uniform is only useable after a person has met certain in game requirements, like 'x' amount of diplomatic missions, so it would be difficult to make it a fleet uniform.
