Love the PDF format. Excellent work, guys!

Is it wrong that one thing I really liked when I found Stonewall was the great site layout/features, etc. It's all very very slick!

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CRAFTING CORP:

February 1st, 2011 - San Diego, CA - Come one, come all! The Stonewall Fleet Store is now open (again!) for business! That's right, the Crafting Corp has been hard at work (averaging around 5 hours of work per person) getting everything ready for you and we are finally ready to unveil the updated store. The launch of Season 3 brought many new items to the store (over 600 more to be exact) including craftable, rare Bat'leths, Mark XI gear, and the infamous Aegis Set, so let the fun begin!

Each item will be hand-crafted (LOL) by members of our Crafting Corp and delivered to you in-game via a Bridge or by special mail-order request. Each item has a suggested donation amount of which 100% of the proceeds go to the fleet bank for our future starbase, event prizes, and more! You no longer need to provide any mats for the item* because we have been hard at work gathering samples, scouring the exchange for cheap rare particle traces, making schematics, and ensuring we have crafters available to help. To find out more, please visit our Store FAQ (http://stonewallfleet.com/store/faq).

But, we are not stopping there! Coming soon: Tribbles and bundle packs, including: Complete Toon bundles, Bridge Officer bundles, Ship Layout bundles and much more!

Since this is very new, we will also be requesting your feedback. Please PM the Crafting Corp's leader, me - bfelczer, with any comments and suggestions you have. Thanks and get to shoppin'!

To access the store, visit stonewallfleet.com/store

*Due to the large demand we are expecting for some items, quantities of some samples and traces may become limited; you will be notified if we are out of something after you place an order. If you already have all the samples required for a recipe, we would be happy to craft an item for you without asking for a donation.

Eeeek, nasty. Does every BSOD display the same error code? And always check running temps. And if you've overclocked anything, reset it to default.

In fact, it probably wouldn't hurt to perform a clear of CMOS. You'd be amazed how many times I've repaired a BSODing system just by doing that. Mostly after I've OCed it until it breaks.

If you suspect a damaged memory module, try physically removing all but one of your sticks, stress testing, switching, repeat. If the PC de-stabilises on one particular stick, problem found.

I found my old old copy of this thing in the basement while cleaning a month or two ago, tried briefly to get it to work on my computer, and then tossed it when it didn't...

I remember it was very picky about the exact right words / sequence of events, and it frustrated me.

Good story, though.

Yeah, Spectrum Holobyte was the name of company. Basically now they've been eaten up and spun off several times. They were acquired by MicroProse (who did Civ 1 if I recall correctly). Then MicroProse was acquired and spun off several times into what is now Atari.

I honestly think STO could learn a lot from this 1995 game. There were more puzzles and things to figure out. It wasn't quite Myst-like in its level of figuring out things from scratch, but it required a lot of thought.

Oh I loved the musical one! I thought the Gregorian pods had a gorgeous sound. Sometimes I'd just play those as I was roaming throughout the world if they were still in my inventory.

That reminds me of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Harbinger

I want to upgrade, and soon, but right now the only thing that keeps me from it is the BSOD issue that I thought I fixed has started popping up again.

I had thought it was a memory issue, but then googled the error codes from the BSOD screen and it seemed to be a network driver issue, so I reinstalled the drivers from EVGA. I thought I had it licked, but then I tried logging into tribble and it started BSODing over and over again. It used to be mostly when I had a browser open and I was in a game, but then when it started again I had the browser closed (But I had recently installed rainmeter). So I am back to thinking it's a memory issue without any way of knowing if that's actually what it is. : /

So now I don't want to upgrade, because I feel like I might not be able to even play games because of this BSOD thing.

Re: What's the story, if any, to your ship names?

February 01 2011
Really interesting to read everyone's answers here! Thanks for sharing everyone.

My toon settled on USS Blind Io for his second command, and has stuck with it ever since through every ship tier.

Blind Io is the chief of the gods of the Discworld, according to the great Terry Pratchett. Blind Io is not entirely accurately named; amongst many influences, he is primarily inspired by the Nordic legend of the god Odin, who gave up an eye in exchange for wisdom. Blind Io though seems to have given up both eyes, but like the Greek god Argus he sees through the many eyeballs that orbit in the air around his head.

I'm curious: of those who responded here (or want to), who have obviously put a lot of thought into their ship names, how many have also entered a bio in-game for their captain(s)?
I do have a bio, though it was only a first-draft that I never got around to returning to. I posted it on our forums and then discovered how short the bios had to be to fit on the game's character bio sheet, got annoyed, and stopped. But he is gay. ;)

Aye, my overclocked 460 is more than enough for my needs at the moment; the only games on the horizon I'm particularly looking forward to are Portal 2 and Dragon Age 2.

I've got an eye on Crysis 2, but last time around they took a brilliant and simple concept for a game then made a pigs-ear of it with shoddy extra-terrestrial nonsense. If C2 is more like the first half of Crysis, than maybe I'll give it a go.

We've had EVGA before here and liked them. The Zotac I'm running on atm I bought mostly because of price to be honest, but it's actually more than powerful enough, has a great cooler and huge heatsink on it, runs much quieter than my old HD 5770.

IMO GFX card tech is the hardest thing to keep up with, since not only is it not possible to directly compare the two major manufacturers' architecture, it's equally impossible to compare successive generations of cards. And then there are all the factory-overclockers... I tend to find catching up when I need to every couple of years a tonne easier than trying to keep up to date all the time!

I'm a big fan of EVGA, meself, but it's more because I liked how they jumped up and acted when I felt that nvidia wasn't doing anything about the SLI crashes with Windows 7 x64.

So I was trying to decide between the 570 and 580 then I hear (from here and then shortly after from EVGA) that a 560 Ti came out. I thought that was odd for them to come out with a brand new card that's not quite as good as their other new cards. But then I considered that maybe they just wanted to make a new mid-grade card that gamers who didn't want to pay for a 570 or higher could have. :p

I need to keep up more. >.

After playing with the platoon thing, I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't permanent. If you have premium, you can create a platoon, invite others into it and then battle with them all on the same team. The platoon will stay active until you dismiss it or until you log out. After that, it appears to dissolve.

So no Stonewall Platoon. >.

Re: What's the story, if any, to your ship names?

The U.S.S. Star Hammer is my main toon's ship. Not a really interesting story about that; I used to play a game called Spore and I created a really nifty ship called the Star Hammer (and it's little brother called the Dwarf-Star Hammer. Both ships with a huge spinal mounted cannon) and when I started playing STO I wanted a spiffy sounding ship name so I grabbed that one. :3

My toon Angel Silhouette is a science officer (Unfortunately. I can't stand playing Sci.) and has a few ships with which I alternate:

U.S.S. Omega Point (DSSV: An omega point is the culmination of all knowledge in the universe.)
U.S.S Omniscience (RSSV: A bit like an omega point, really. :p I also like how it can look like omni-science to me sometimes :3)
U.S.S. Star Lion (My Star Cruiser. It looks a bit like a diving frigate bird, to me, but calling it the U.S.S. Frigate would have been silly. So I went from Frigate to Sea Lion, then from Sea Lion to Star Lion. :3 )
U.S.S. Entropy (Nebula Class Starship. I decided to go with the opposite of the culmination of knowledge, one of the generally accepted words for the eventual heat death of the universe.)

My Ferengi has had the U.S.S. Tsar Bomba (The largest nuclear bomb ever detonated on earth) the U.S.S War Machine and now the U.S.S. Tannhauser Gate (Named after a battle in which Roy Batty fought before the events of Blade Runner.)

My borg had:

U.S.S. Bonny Anne (Saber Class Escort Named after one of the most famous woman pirates, Anne Bonny.)
U.S.S. Queen Emeraldas (Akira Class named for the... Queen Emeraldas pirate ship from the anime of the same name. xD)
U.S.S. Scarab (Gallant mish-mash named because it looks like a Scarab Beetle)
I kind of pretend she's a mirror universe Terran Empire captain who practices piracy to both hurt Starfleet and to fund the maintenance on her ships.

Those are the only ones worth mentioning Starfleet side.
My KDF officer had:

The I.K.S. K'argentivas (named after a large, the largest flying bird ever discovered, the argentivas magnificens)
The I.K.S. Blood Bath
The I.K.S. Beast
The appropriately named I.K.S. Can't remember the name just now. Either Behemoth, Juggernaut or Goliath.
and the I.K.S. Warbird (Because it looks very Romulan-esque ^.^ )
Most of the names are just.. sort of klingony sounding except they're in English. :3
