Re: Where do you see Stonewall going?

February 13 2011
I like the idea of expanding slowly. I for one may be enticed to come back and play TOR with my friends here.

I'd caution against starting a guild in a game because Cryptic made it...specifically for that reason. While I love STO and know that the developers have worked hard to do right by it, their games have a pattern of having the same issue...great titles/concepts, and they drop the ball (or launch too early), which ends in losing a lot of players after the first few months...so I'd say keep an eye out on their games, but be cautious about putting a lot of time and effort into starting a guild there if no one is going to be playing it in 3 months.

Also, once you expand to new games, you'll probably see people migrate away from some and into others, and the concentration of people may not be in the game you expect (just a heads up from my previous guild experiences).

But, by and large, this is a great group of people, and I'd say if a few members are interested in going to another game (that the whole fleet isn't interested in pursuing), maybe let them start a guild there and make an alliance with them (list them on the forums, etc). That way, they can still play with their stonewall friends in other games.

I love Lady Gaga, and honestly this song, but I feel torn, because I love Madonna's "Express Yourself" too...and I feel like it was completely ripped off.

I'm usually so far behind on this stuff, but my bf was just telling me about this song as we drove to lunch, and then it came on the radio. I asked him when Madonna's new album is coming out. :)

The song is the most blatant attempt at creating a gay anthem ever. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet. On the one hand, it's nice to be pandered to. On the other, it seems kind of crass. Or it would, coming from anyone else. But I guess she earned her gay following the old fashioned way, even if she didn't get her start playing the bath houses of New York.

I will say that this song surprised me a little bit. It's a bit more Gaga meets rock as opposed to her more strict identification with electronica/dance.

And as expected, love the song -- just like everything else she's done.

"Born This Way" is the new gay anthem?

February 12 2011
i LOVE it! soooo Madonna "Express Yourself"ish

Lyrics:
Intro:
It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital h-i-m
Just put your paws up
'Cause you were born this way, baby

Verse:
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir
"There's nothin wrong with lovin who you are"
She said, "'cause he made you perfect, babe"
"So hold your head up girl and you'll go far,
Listen to me when I say"

Chorus:
I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause god makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way
Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Post-chorus:
Ooo there ain't no other way
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
Ooo there ain't no other way
Baby I was born-
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way
Don't be a drag -just be a queen
Don't be a drag -just be a queen
Don't be a drag -just be a queen
Don't be!

Verse:
Give yourself prudence
And love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice your truth
In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth
A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital h-i-m (hey hey hey)
I love my life I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah (love needs faith)

Repeat chorus + post-chorus

Bridge:
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you're broke or evergreen
You're black, white, beige, chola descent
You're lebanese, you're orient
Whether life's disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
'Cause baby you were born this way
No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to be brave

Repeat chorus

Outro/refrain:
I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way hey

I had a Nausicaan named "Guan-Thwei" - Night Blood in the language of the Yautja (Predators) With the right costuming, Nausicaans look VERY much like Predators, so I felt that a Predator name would be appropriate. :3

Re: Proposal: Character naming dictionaries

February 12 2011
Yesterday I spent a bunch of time hanging out in the central hall on Qo'noS and running/flying around ESD. I've picked up a great number of names for certain species, esp Orions, Caitians, and Nausicaans. The sample size for the Orions is getting to the point where I can run them through the generator and get a hearty list of realistic, not-sounding-all-alike names.

I totally forgot to mention that I can use Gorn and Lethean names, as well.

If you have BOs of any of these species, do let me know their names (even if the name is a bit off-the-wall, it can still contribute to the feel of the language without making every name sound like Sparkle McFluffypants).

(what is "stonewall" in Romulan?).
How would you guys like to see us do when the Romulan faction comes out? Any ideas on how to get more people interested in playing Klingon? What would you guys think about faction specific officers?

Right now i have an ra4-5 in klink a tac, and starting on a eng who has only done Vault.

Stone Wall and Fleet in romulan words (not script, i can work that out, but havent yet) is Jorreh Honn Galae, not sure what the correct order would be.

You mean Starship Battles? I loved that game. Some part of it appealed to the high-action-accountant in me. You had to balance your energy budget every turn, and plan ahead by charging weapons several turns in advance of firing. I still have some scratch paper here in my office that's xeroxed Damage Allocation Chart, Impulse Movement Chart, and the damage chart for a Federation Heavy Cruiser on one side.

Sigh. Now I feel like a really old geek.
