Even if the ads only play to free users it will destroy any level of immersion there ever was in this game and that's one of the biggest attractors to playing! In the end, those free players wont want to pay to play some game they have no connection to and doesn't feel like Trek.

Unfortunately, experience has shown that if you don't grab the torches now, they'll think we're ok with it and put it into Holodeck. Once it's there, getting it removed will take months, if at all. I'm not saying people should quit the game, but you should definitely start making noise to let Cryptic know you are NOT ok with this.
