They've added several new servers and kept people from creating new characters on the original servers for several days to even out the populations.

I tried to get in the first couple days as a f2p player, but only waited in the queue for 4-6 hours before going to bed. Then they opened two new servers and I got on the Ezi server as Elowa. I've been enjoying it a lot, although I love to explore, gather, farm, and craft. The graphics are pretty good, too.

They've done quite a few changes the last week to try to lower the queue wait times. (aggressively booting AFKers/spammers, adding more servers, etc.) If you were having huge wait times before, it should be much better now.

Some positives in my opinion:
  • Amazing character customization for faces. There are hundreds of sliders you can change.
  • Sandbox. It has quests and an main story quest, but you can literally just run around and do whatever.
  • Crafted items are best items.
  • No real loot other than coins and rare crafting materials. Some quests will give gear as you go through them.
  • Flexibility in class. Like Dorian mentioned, there are 120 options for classes (you pick 3 out of 10) and have points to spend on the skills to make unique builds. Can also change them around when you want.
  • Gliders that you can fly/float on.
  • Custom player-owned housing.
  • Lots of outfits, which a mechanism to modify clothing/armor to look like other pieces.

The downsides (again my opinion):
  • Can't customize body features (everyone of each race is same build and height). It amazes me that this is not changeable with how customizable the faces are.
  • Strong focus on PvP (I'm not an MMO PvP fan) with conflict areas, encouraged scamming (within game mechanics), and an overall "pirate" environment.
  • The above environment seems to have attracted players that love to grief or otherwise abuse other players. For example, people are constantly destroying other people's publicly planted crops before they mature (so no resources are given), just to keep someone else from getting the resources. These people are even using their labor points to do this.
  • Their pay/store mechanism could be considered "pay to win" on some level. Land (housing and private farms) can only be owned by paying customers. Monthly subscribers get labor points when offline and twice as many while logged in as f2p. (LP are used for all crafting/farming/harvesting.) Some items are only sold on the marketplace (no way to get it in game other than buy from someone who paid real money for it).

Hail, proud warriors of the Empire! We feast today, for we find that our great ship designers have finally mastered the art of counting past four and set to bestow upon us a worthy Raptor with 5 fore weapons and 5 tactical slots and a turn rate that allows us to properly use them to rain death down upon our foes!

It appears that the Federation and Romulan designers have been equally hard at work to give us honorable, delicious targets to utterly annihilate!

(I'm on a touchscreen; otherwise I'd copy in the full ship stats for the Guardian, Dauntless, Mat'Ha, and Aehlal.)

Character Biography

September 22 2014

F O R E W A R D

I've been thinking of posting my Captain's biography for some time, and tonight, in honor of my 2,000th post on the Stonewall forums, I finally decided to share.  I'm not much of a writer or a role-player, but I hope you enjoy all the same!

B I O G R A P H Y

Born of a Trill father and Vulcan mother, Voleron inherited the tendency for logical thought, coupled with the added ability to experience a wide spectrum of emotions.  Being the son of prominent and influential parents, Voleron, from a young age, was all but assured a symbiont with which he would eventually be joined in his later years, much to the disdain of many Trills who labored for the same opportunity.

In his early twenties, Voleron expressed an interest in joining Starfleet, and at age twenty three, he succeeded in passing the entrance examinations and gaining admittance to the academy, where he excelled at scientific study.  Voleron eventually joined the ranks of the youngest starship Captains at the age of thirty-two.

Although Voleron grew up in a comfortable and even luxurious environment by many people's standards, he has known adversity.  One of the cardinal rules of Trill symbiosis, is that the new host isn't meant to continue the close relationships of the symbiont's preceding hosts.  It is thought that continuing those relationships limits the potential for the symbiont's new experiences and contravening that covenant is seen as an extremely selfish act on the part of the host, which means certain exile from Trill and the end of the symbiont's life upon the death of that host.

The previous host of the symbiont that Voleron would eventually carry, was named Jaylon, who was also quite a young and gifted man when he was joined, as only the best and brightest among Trill society are gifted with the opportunity to be host to a symbiont.  Jaylon shared a deep intimacy with a human boy named Rémi Bastian, in his younger years.  The pair grew up as teenagers and into young adulthood together, sharing a unique closeness which made them practically inseparable.  Jaylon and Rémi both enlisted in Starfleet together, however, two years into academy training, Jaylon died in what was widely believed to be a training accident.  Due to Jaylon's young and untimely death, the symbiosis commission felt that it seemed logical to allow the symbiont to continue the short journey it had begun in the Starfleet career path.  The symbiosis commission offered the symbiont to Voleron, who was already in the graduating class at Starfleet Academy.  Voleron eagerly accepted the symbiont, and the two were joined.

Prior to the joining, Voleron was known around campus for his somewhat frequent sexual promiscuities with an endless assortment of women.  Despite having a keen intellect and being dedicated to his studies and success at the academy, Voleron was known to charm not only fellow class mates, but was rumoured to have been romantically involved with one of the female instructors at the academy.  Though this had never been confirmed, the rumour was often the talk of campus.

They say that 'the joining' changes the host, and despite the many years of training and preparation, Voleron was hugely impacted by the sudden onslaught of the symbiont's experiences upon their merging.  In the days following the joining, Voleron felt compelled to reach out to Rémi Bastian, and offer his friendship in the wake of Rémi's loss with Jaylon's death.  Rémi naturally gravitated toward Voleron, clutching desperately onto any memory of Jaylon, his former lover, and taking comfort in the knowledge that Jaylon was living on in Voleron.  As the months passed, and Rémi gravitated closer and closer to Voleron, the guilt that Voleron felt for having denied Rémi closure following Jaylon's death by engaging him in a friendship, began to increase.

Voleron planned to break off the friendship with Rémi one night, under the old oak tree on the Academy grounds, knowing that the continued closeness would be nothing but perpetual agony on Rémi's spirit and soul.  The pair met that night, while the grounds were quiet and the harvest moonlight flooded the park.  As Voleron began to speak the words that Rémi dreaded to hear, a single tear rolled down the corner of Rémi's left eye and down his chiselled cheek.  In that moment, Voleron felt something in the pit of his stomach that he'd never felt in his life before.  Trailing off mid-sentence, he slowly raised his hand and gently brushed away Rémi's tear, locking eyes with him and examining the broken hearted expression that had washed over Rémi's paling and trembling face.  In what was to Voleron a shockingly primal and instinctive act, he leaned in and kissed Rémi lightly on his cushion like lips for a brief moment, before backing away quickly in jarring bewilderment.  Were these his own feelings... were these the symbiont's feelings or a combination of the two?  Voleron couldn't tell and in the moment that followed, he allowed himself not to care... he leaned in for a second time, lifting Rémi's chin gently upward, guiding their lips softly together, once more.  The pair kissed passionately, much to Rémi's exultance and Voleron's... confusion... mixed with a feeling of contentment for the first time in his life.

The closest of relationships followed, but that decision came at the cost of Voleron's essential exile from Trill, and doomed the symbiont to die with him.. a decision by the symbiosis commission that Voleron continues to appeal to this day.  Voleron quickly found himself spurned by many members of his family for making the decision to "rejoin"; a rejection that devastated him and drove him closer and closer to Rémi, seeking comfort and strength in strangely familiar arms, where he also felt safe and at peace with the universe.  Although Starfleet life saw both Voleron and Rémi apart on various assignments for varied periods of time, Voleron was ultimately offered his own command, and he of course, requested that Rémi be transferred to his ship, where he currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander and acts as Voleron's first officer.

The USS Aurelius was intended to be sent into deep space, on a long-range and long-term scientific and exploration mission.  It wasn't a desirable command, which is why Voleron was offered it at such a young age.  Having escaped the horrors of the front lines, the young and untested crew have been sent off to continue Starfleet's scientific and explorative mandate, while sadly, many of their friends and fleet mates have been deployed to repel the multitude of Borg incursions and other threats into Federation space.  With the wind at their backs and nothing but uncharted space ahead, the possibilities for adventure are limitless.

I agree with Milmar there is not a viable all turret build out there, your damage would be too low and CRF III and EPW III Would not be enough to make the deficit. An All turret build is pretty much the same as a Rainbow Beam build...

I looked at this and honestly an all turret build simply is not viable damage wise i mean you can probably get one to scrape by in STFs etc because they are fairly easy these days.

Historically turret builds could work and cryptic decided they didnt like it and nerfed turret damage to the point they couldnt be used on their on in a build to pump out reasonable damage.

Star Trek author rebukes anti-gay reader

September 21 2014

If he thinks the fear of alienating a few closed-minded readers is going to stop me from writing stories that feature and promote characters of diverse backgrounds—including LGBTQ characters, persons of color, and people who belong to ideological or philosophical minorities—he must be out of his mind. vanguardI’m a fucking Star Trek writer. Hasn’t he ever heard of IDIC—“Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations”?

Exactly.

Does the Scryer Intel Science Vessel look familiar?

So if they've had the art/assets laying around all this time, why's it just coming out now?

Back when the original trailer came out, people lost their shit over that ship. The nerds raged, "There's holes in it!" and Cryptic ended up scrapping the design.

4 years later it gets pushed into the game.

The Perpetual concepts predate game launch, obvs.

but the ring primary hull, I'd wager is Suricata's doing, ever since he joined Cryptic. From his blog posts, it looks like those designs were brainstorming submissions for Cryptic's Enterprise-F design contest (he apparently went with a different concept altogether).

Thx, bro! (lol)

Basically - before buying the x-box-controller - I did the same with Xpadder. But setting up the keys alone for GTA IV frustrated me^^

Yeah, the queue has been pretty ridiculous the last few days. There will be more servers added soon but I totally understand :(. I'll leave an update as to when queues become less congested for those still interested. Otherwise, ill see you guys on other games. (I can't forget about my GW2!)

Windows 8.1 and controllers (game pads)

September 20 2014
Oh no.. sorry I didnt look at this sooner.. I tried to do what you wanted to do several months back.

But using a PS3 controller. I got it to work.. but it takes a lot of downloading and installing, and mapping.. and in some cases having to press F7 on start up to change internal settings to accept 3rd party devices.

It was hard work.. install a driver to pretend its a microsoft product, install a mapper.. and select what button does what on the controller.. once its activated it thinks the controller is a mouse so you have to use the controller to navigate on your pc. In the end i was fed up of going through a lot of set up just before i wanted to play something.

it was easier and indeed safter to get a microsoft/Xbox controller in the long run.

I googled and youtubed all i needed..
like this.. basically download a "DS3" program, to make your comp think your using a microsoft pad..
and a "better DS3" to map your controller buttons.

in the long run I think you did the right thing in the end
btw im not a technical guy, so i could have ruined my comp :p

Wow... at this time 101 views and only 1 comment (thank you, Nick! :) ).

I´ve solved the problem after hours of internet research.

Since it´s a damn Windows Notebook I have - which will make my grey hairs grow much faster, I´m sure about that - I just went today to my electronics shop and bought a damn original Microsoft Xbox-360-controller for Windows.

So, problem solved for the moment, this thread could be closed.

For the future I´ve decided that my next laptop will be a Macintosh. Just plug in the stuff and it works with a Macintosh. WHY DID I YEARS AGO CHANGE BACK TO WINDOWS PCs??? Stupidity? Yep, definitely.

Cheers, A.M.
