[EVENT] Captain Biography Contest!

September 30 2014
C A P T A I N · B I O G R A P H Y · C O N T E S T !

The Department of Fleet Resources in cooperation with Calx and the Stonewall Times community magazine, is proud to announce Stonewall Fleet's first Captain's biography contest, which will run from the date of this post, through to October 31st, 2014, and we're extra excited to be giving away some unique and amazing prizes for the participants and winners of this event!

We know that your character is a unique representation of an aspect of your personality that you may not normally have the opportunity to share in-game. That's why we've decided to offer you the opportunity to get your Captain's story out there! We're excited to meet all of Stonewall's amazing Captains and to learn about the lives they've lived and the experiences they've had on their road to being your Star Trek Online character! Share your Captain's biography with us here, in this thread, for your chance to win!

R U L E S

To participate in the Stonewall Captain's Biography Contest, you must post your Captain's biography here, in this thread, before 11:59 PM Pacific time, on October 31st, 2014. Your posted biography must comply with these additional six rules to be eligible:

  1. Your biography must relate to one of your in-game Captains
  2. Your biography must be written in English
  3. Your biography must be no longer than 2,000 words
  4. Your biography must be your own original work (plagiarism will result in disqualification)
  5. Your biography must include the following information: your character's race, affiliation (Starfleet/KDF/Civilian, etc.), and assignment (starship / space station etc).
  6. The content of your biography must not be edited after being posted - only formatting changes are permitted

Only one entry per fleet member, please.

While we encourage you to include graphics to supplement your character's biography, only the written narrative portion of your entry will be judged.

You may post a biography for your Captain that you've previously posted elsewhere in the Stonewall forums or elsewhere online, however, we encourage you to update your biography before submitting it for the contest.

J U D G I N G

Submissions will be judged by a judging panel of two or more judges (panel to be announced). Judges will rate entries for creativity, uniqueness and overall ability to capture and hold the reader's interest. The judges will review all entries and announce the winners no later than November 9th, 2014.

If you have any questions regarding any aspect of the contest, please reach out to me via private message on the fleet website, rather than posting in this thread, which is reserved exclusively for entries.

P R I Z E S !

The GRAND PRIZE WINNER will win the following, amazing prizes:
  • 2,500 Zen
  • A very rare forum ribbon (winner's edition) on the Stonewall Fleet website
  • An ultra rare Delta Rising T-Shirt, obtained at the STLV 2014 Convention!
  • Have their entire Captain's biography published in the next edition of the Stonewall Times!

*Delta Rising T-shirt is size: medium. Winner will need to provide a mailing address to claim this portion of the prize package.

The SECOND PLACE WINNER will receive the following prizes:
  • 1,000 Zen
  • A rare forum ribbon (participant's edition) on the Stonewall Fleet website
  • Honorable mention and a brief profile of their Captain featured in the next edition of the Stonewall Times, with a link to their biography in the Stonewall forums!

PARTICIPANTS will receive:
  • A rare forum ribbon (participant's edition) on the Stonewall Fleet website
  • Their Captain's name featured in the contestant list of the next edition of the Stonewall Times, with a link to their biography in the Stonewall forums!

The forum ribbons awarded during this event are exclusive to winners and participants of Stonewall's forum based events. Historically, fleet members have only had the opportunity to earn these ribbons once a year.

Once the contest has concluded, this thread will be merged with the existing character biography thread in the "Holodeck" section of the fleet forums, where your Captain's story will be forever displayed for all former, present and future Stonewallers to see. Immortalize your Captain and secure their legacy among Stonewall's proudest serving members by participating in this event today!

We're very excited to see the writing talent that Stonewall has to offer, and are enthusiastically waiting to journey with your Captain through sorrow, excitement, trials and adventure! To kick off the contest, I've shared my own Captain's biography in the post that follows, as an example.

Good luck to everyone!

I don't see the problem either with William Shatner showing up in the new movie, but.....didn't he die? Don't tell me they're going to Days of Future past the original timeline....

Love the idea, but alas, I am torn.

On one hand, This is the one and only James T. Kirk, himself. If he's willing to reprise the role, then he should.

On the other...the dude is 83 years old. I suppose they could work something into the story...very, very carefully.

Color me curious, and maybe a little excited. :)

No, please no. It's bad enough the movie is being gifted to a first time Director.

For me = A Tier 5U TOS Constitution in STO, no problem!

William Shatner in the Trek reboot, just no.

Wow Calx

I'm surprised and great impressed with your efforts with the stonewall times since being appointed.

And I'm even more greatly impressed and grateful in your detail to information.

And thank you for continuing the submission of my story as well. It has brought me great joy and seeing up there, which I promised myself I wouldn't get teary eyed.

Keep up the great work. And an award for dedication and perseverance in keeping this going shouldn't go unnoticed.

"We are pleased to announce that in anticipation for Delta Rising, we’re hosting our Research and Development Weekend from September 25th at 10AM PDT, until September 29th at 10AM PDT. The event features several bonuses throughout STO that will give Captains of all levels a leg up advancing their rank in the Research and Development school(s) of their choice.

For those Captains looking specifically for extra help with their projects, all R&D packs throughout the game will give out an extra 25% of the items they currently disperse for the duration of this event.
Research & Development Packs, available in the C-Store, will give out 11 extra R&D Materials, 3 extra R&D Components and 1 extra R&D Catalyst. " ( http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/7007573-research-and-development-bonus-weekend! )

This seems to be more than a one point/time free stuff give out. I got stuff twice at space dock (Thurs and Friday) and think I will again tonight.

Post your experience/knowledge/thoughts = we all love free stuff!!!!!!!!
